Last year, after having our garden completely planted, the rain came pouring down.
The plants that survived never seemed to quite recover from the constant heavy rains. Naturally, we were sad that our garden did not overflow with produce like it had the year previously. However, the farms around us were the ones who really took the hit.
When we looked around we were devastated for our neighbors. There was lost crops, lost animals, and houses that needed extensive repairs. Most neighbors around us had their flourishing crops flooded to the point where they were unrecoverable. That meant hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost income right around us. Some farmers tried to replant. However, many farmers just took their losses because it was too late in the season and they would not be able to harvest the crops they planted. We also had neighbors have their livestock literally drown before their eyes. I saw feelings of complete hopelessness and grief.
With 2015 behind us, we are looking forward to a new year and excited for the blessings around the corner! To any neighbors that had loss in 2015, we are hoping for ten times what they lost to be gained in 2016!
